A seminar takes one or several days and gives further education on a clearly defined question of water desalination. Selected experts lecture on the topic, and participants have the opportunity to discuss it with them. Seminars are held on the premises of the institute or at universities. Seminars that accompany a conference take place at the conference venue, before or after the conference itself.
The entry point to the programme is the seminar "Introduction to Water Desalination: Technology, Markets, Environment". It gives an overview of the most common desalination processes and their applications, of market potentials, environmental aspects and trends in research and development. It addresses representatives of politics, business and science who want to acquire elementary technical and economic information about this branch. It is offered regularly in English and in German.
Beyond the introduction, the seminar programme covers single subjects in depth. The archive of past classes includes pre-treatment and post-treatment, intake technology, energy recovery, zero liquid discharge, membranes and membrane distillation, desalination powered by renewable and by nuclear energy, small and mobile systems, raw material recovery, and future desalination technology.
All participants receive a certificate. A seminar lasting several days can be completed with an examination on request. In this case the participant receives a qualified testimonial.
A typical one-day seminar runs from registration at 08:30 to about 17:45, in units of 45 to 90 minutes with breaks, covering markets, the processes in overview, phase stable processes (membranes UF, NF, RO and ion exchange), phase changing processes (MED, MEH, MD), practice, cost aspects, raw materials and environmental aspects.
Fees and booking
The participation fee depends on format and duration and is stated in the flyer for the respective event. Registrations received by the deadline given in the flyer qualify for an early booking rate. Students receive a reduced rate; please attach proof of enrolment to your registration. A limited number of student places is available for each event.
The fee covers the course documents and the catering during the breaks stated in the flyer. Travel and accommodation are not included; hotel recommendations are listed in the flyer.
You can register in two ways: with the form in the flyer, followed by an invoice and bank transfer quoting the course number, or directly on the campus, where access is granted as soon as payment is received.
If you cancel by the deadline stated in the flyer, 50 percent of the fee is refunded. After that deadline no refund is possible. Recording or passing on course content requires our written consent.
Academic recognition
Credit points are available on request and by arrangement. Please state your university and the intended course when you enquire.
